City Approves 2026-27 Budget

Farmersville City Council gave final approval Sept. 8 to the city’s fiscal year 2026-27 budget after a brief public hearing drew no speakers. Staff described the plan as conservative and said it keeps the property tax rate at $0.725, the same rate as last year.

The budget includes a 3% raise for city employees, along with money for a number of ongoing city operations and enterprise funds. Staff said the plan is built around current revenue projections while finance employees continue working through prior-year cleanup and account coding changes.

During the presentation, staff said the city still has unanswered questions in its 2026 accounting and wants to avoid spending every available dollar before those numbers are fully sorted out. Officials said the budget leaves some revenue uncommitted for now, with the option to return later for amendments if needed.

City leaders also said the budget process is still helping staff better track where expenses belong across departments and utilities. That work, officials said, is intended to give the city a clearer picture of operating costs before future decisions are made on rates, equipment purchases or other changes.

With the budget approved, the city is set to return to the tax rate at its Sept. 21 meeting. Officials said state law requires the tax rate to be adopted by Sept. 30.
