Temporary Fire Services Deal Approved With Conditions

Farmersville City Council approved a temporary interlocal agreement with Collin County Emergency Services District No. 1 at its Sept. 21 meeting, but attached conditions as talks continue over how fire-related services will be funded and provided.

City officials described the agreement as a six-month measure rather than a long-term settlement. The deal also includes a 30-day exit option, giving either side a way to end the arrangement while negotiations continue.

The agreement was presented as a stopgap while the city and the emergency services district work through unresolved issues. Officials said those discussions still include both funding and service terms, indicating that a broader final arrangement has not yet been settled.

One of the questions raised during the discussion involved dispatch costs. According to city officials, the proposed allocation included $100,000 identified as dispatch, while the city’s current dispatch contract is about $142,635.

Staff said negotiations will continue not only on dispatch funding but also on what services city crews would provide in the fire district. Council’s approval allows the temporary agreement to move forward for now, while leaving key cost and service questions to be worked out later.
