Water And Sewer Fees Go Up

Farmersville City Council approved updates to the city’s master fee schedule for water and sewer service during its Sept. 21 meeting, following a public hearing that drew no speakers. The changes affect utility customers and were presented as part of the city’s broader financial planning for the 2026-27 fiscal year.

City staff said the update was driven in part by a 9 percent rate increase from the North Texas Municipal Water District. Council approved the revised fee schedule after hearing that the outside increase was one of the factors behind the city’s own changes.

Staff also said the update addresses sewer charges for non-residents. In addition, the revised schedule clarifies that the residential sewer rate without averaging applies during a customer’s first year of service.

The utility fee action came the same night council approved the city’s tax rate and property tax roll as part of the annual budget process. While the tax rate remained unchanged, the utility update means some residents and customers could still see higher costs tied to water and sewer service.

Council took formal action to approve the fee changes, making the utility update one of the meeting’s key decisions affecting everyday household services.
