Farmersville Updates Employee Handbook, Cancels Two Late-Year Meetings

Farmersville City Council acted October 5 on a rewrite of the city’s employee handbook and voted to cancel its second meetings in November and December. The meeting also included discussion of vacancies on several city boards, along with neighborhood concerns about trash, tree limbs, and school-related street parking.

City Approves Overhaul Of Employee Handbook

Council approved Resolution R2026 1005000, adopting updates to the city’s personnel policy manual effective October 5. Staff said the 94-page handbook was rewritten to make rules easier for employees to understand and to add policies required by state law and other workplace requirements.

Vacation, Sick Leave, And Holiday Rules Changed

Human Resources said the new handbook raises vacation accrual tiers and increases leave carryover limits, while ending the city’s vacation sellback policy. The city manager said that if every employee sold back what they could this year, the total would be $76,000. Christmas Eve and Christmas Day carryover was extended through March, and the sick leave cap and a conversion to personal leave provision were removed.
