Cannon Beach Reboot Clears, Industrial Split Moves, Honey Creek Homes Advance After Resident Pushback

McKinney’s Planning and Zoning Commission spent its April 14, 2026 meeting on three rezoning cases that could shape traffic, housing, and future business growth in different parts of the city. Two cases moved ahead without public opposition, while a proposed neighborhood near FM 543 drew concerns from nearby residents over congestion, safety, and construction impacts.
Cannon Beach Rezone Returns And Moves Forward Again
The Cannon Beach rezoning at Stacy Road and SH 121 came back to the commission after a technical notice problem, not because the project changed. Staff said the mailed notices were correct, but the signs posted on the property showed the wrong zoning number. Commissioners approved the request again, 7 to 0, sending it to City Council for final action on April 21.
Industrial And Commercial Zoning Approved Near Future FM 546
Commissioners also approved a rezoning request on tracts in the RH Locke Survey from agricultural to light industrial and local commercial. Staff said the split follows the path of future FM 546, with industrial on the north side and commercial on the south. That layout lines up with nearby zoning and the city’s long-range plan, giving the area a clearer setup as development moves in. The vote was 7 to 0, and City Council will take it up May 5.
