The Lavon City Council approved a contract with planning consultants to begin updating the city's comprehensive plan, which guides land use, infrastructure, and development decisions.
The current comprehensive plan was adopted in 2016 and is due for its regular 10-year update. The new plan will address significant changes in the city since then, including completion of the Highway 78 expansion and new residential growth in the western part of town.
The planning process will include community surveys, public workshops, and meetings with stakeholder groups including business owners, school district officials, and residents. The first community workshop is scheduled for March.
The updated plan is expected to be completed and adopted by the end of 2026.
Why It Matters
The comprehensive plan guides all major city decisions including zoning, infrastructure investment, and development approvals. This update will shape Lavon's growth for the next decade.
What Happens Next
An online community survey will launch in February. The first public workshop is scheduled for March 15. Check the city website for details on how to participate.
