Unopposed seats cancel May election while parkway progress, trail delays and building repairs dominate council meeting

Farmersville City Council focused on everyday issues residents see around town. Leaders discussed the parkway construction timeline, delays on the Chaparral Trail project, needed repairs to city buildings, animal control confusion, and financial updates tied to city events.

May election canceled after no one filed against incumbents
Council approved canceling the May 2, 2026 election because every seat had only one candidate. When there is no opponent in a race, state law allows the city to cancel the election and declare the candidates elected without holding a vote.

Residents again asked about cost and timing for the Farmersville Parkway project. Engineers said utilities are relocating and underground work is progressing. Crews plan to begin paving on the west end first, with drivable pavement expected in a few weeks. Officials are still calculating extra contract days requested by the contractor.

Water district agreement expected at a future council meeting
Council asked about an agreement tied to piping from the North Texas Water District. Staff said the document should come before council soon. If approved, it would then go to the water district board for final approval in April.
