Board Approves Certificate Of Appropriateness For North Goliad Property

Rockwall’s Historic Preservation Advisory Board spent its October 15, 2026 meeting mainly on one request. The board approved a certificate of appropriateness for a plan to remodel an older house at 504 North Goliad Street and convert it into a restaurant, while another case at 924 North Alamo was withdrawn before consideration.

Certificate Of Appropriateness Approved At 504 North Goliad

The board voted 5-0 to approve a certificate of appropriateness for work at 504 North Goliad Street. The request came from Caleb Cathy of Cathy Family Holding LLC to remodel an existing house and convert it into a restaurant under 2,000 square feet, with no drive-through or drive-in.

Historic House Keeps Its Footprint, Gets Major Exterior Work

Staff said the home was built around 1940 and is considered a medium contributing property in the district. Staff said the proposed work includes replacing lap siding with board and batten siding, repairing the deteriorated porch, replacing the front door, installing a dark gray composition shingle roof, and adding landscaping. The applicant said the footprint is not changing.

Two Windows Would Be Replaced With Doors

During the hearing, the applicant said two existing windows would be replaced with doors. One would add a second entrance into the building, and the other would open toward the outdoor porch area.
