Board Cuts Arcadia Field Deal As Park Bond Questions Grow

Princeton’s Parks and Recreation Advisory Board spent its August 4 meeting weighing how city park space is being used, where bond money is going, and how residents hear about programs and events. The biggest confirmed action was a 6-0 vote to stop extending the city’s field-use agreement with Arcadia Farms HOA, a shift that could affect youth sports scheduling and neighborhood access to that site.

Arcadia Field Agreement Ends After 6-0 Vote

The board voted 6-0 to support not entering into future years of the city’s facility-use agreement with Arcadia Farms HOA. Parks staff said the city now has more of its own field space, including Caldwell Park Phase 2 and White Wing facilities, and spends about $25,000 a year to maintain, light, and service the Arcadia site. Board Chair Darian McCoy recused himself and did not vote because he is Arcadia Farms HOA president.

Staff Says New City Fields Reduce Need For Arcadia Site

Parks Director Chase said the Arcadia field helped fill a need years ago, but the city has since expanded its own inventory. He said most youth programs are being moved back to city-owned sites, especially Caldwell Park. Residents who used Arcadia for games or practice may now need to work through city scheduling at other parks, while the HOA could decide later how to use or rent its field.
