Plano Approves G Avenue Land Items and Erosion Work

Plano City Council considered property, infrastructure, and board appointment items on September 28, 2026. Actions included G Avenue sidewalk-related items, an engineering services expenditure for erosion control improvements, and multiple board and commission appointments.

Erosion Contract Clears Council After Questions

Council approved consent item G in an 8-0 vote, allowing a $270,487.50 engineering services expenditure with Walter P. Moore and Associates for erosion control improvements at various locations. Staff said the city has assessed 127 miles of streams and identified 42 sites, and said this work includes studying problems, evaluating mitigation strategies, and a later construction contract.

Creek Damage Review Focuses on Structures and Infrastructure

Before the vote, staff explained how erosion sites were ranked, including whether houses, businesses, sewer lines, water lines, or walls could be at risk. Staff said the citywide assessment began in 2022 and that staff also goes back out to check whether sites remain critical. Staff also said the city may reassess sites when residents report a problem near a house or creek.

City Converts G Avenue Land for Future Sidewalk Work

Council approved designating 842 square feet of city-owned land at 1406 G Avenue as public right-of-way. Staff said the strip is intended to support a future project to widen sidewalks to 10 feet between 14th and 15th streets, as called for in the downtown thoroughfare plan.

Council Authorizes Property Acquisition Along G Avenue

In a separate vote, council approved an ordinance finding public need for acquiring property interests along the east side of G Avenue south of 15th Street for sidewalk improvements tied to the G Avenue paving and water improvements project. Staff said the city seeks to obtain property voluntarily first, but the ordinance authorizes eminent domain proceedings if necessary.
