Lavon Data Center Moratorium Process Heads Back To City Hall September 15

Lavon’s data center debate is moving into another public stage on September 15. City Council already voted unanimously on August 6 to move forward with the process for a temporary moratorium relating to potential data center development after several residents spoke in support of a pause and decommissioning regulations.

The City Has Already Started The Moratorium Process

During the August 6 meeting, City Attorney Fritz Quast presented information on land use, the required moratorium procedures and the timeline involved. Council then approved moving forward under Texas Local Government Code Section 212.1352, making the September discussion part of a process that is already underway rather than a brand-new proposal.

Developer Meetings Show How Many Details Are Still Unsettled

In recent weeks, a development representative has met with multiple small groups of residents to discuss the property being considered for possible data center development. Those conversations have touched on a potential 85-foot building height, roughly 1.3 million square feet of development, possible power demand, noise, landscaping buffers, water use, infrastructure costs and nearby schools.
