Lavon Upholds Recall Ruling, Denies Main Street Coffee Shop Rezoning

Lavon City Council on November 3 unanimously approved a consent agenda that included final incentive votes for Heritage Square and an Elevon grocery store, approved permits for a tire and auto service shop and a package store on State Highway 78, and denied a rezoning for a coffee shop on Main Street. Council closed the meeting by upholding the city attorney's ruling that six recall petitions are legally insufficient, ending the current recall effort.

Residents Criticize Council Conduct

During citizen comments, a resident criticized council members over social media conduct toward residents and a lack of transparency, saying several people had raised similar concerns over the past six months.

Final Incentive Votes For Heritage Square And Elevon Grocery

Council approved the consent agenda with all members in favor, on a motion by Council Member Cook seconded by Mayor Pro Tem Shepard. It included second and final readings of two Lavon Economic Development Corporation incentives. One provides $500,000 at the start of construction and up to $250,000 in future sales tax over 10 years for a grocery store and fueling station on 17.05 acres on Elevon Parkway. The other commits an estimated $2.7 million in future sales tax over 15 years to the 110.1-acre Heritage Square development at SH 205 and SH 78.
