Farmersville Approves Budget, Sends Gas Pump Rules Back
Farmersville City Council held a long special session on Sept. 8, approving the city’s 2026-27 budget, signing off on both local development corporation budgets, and advancing several agreements related to utility services, emergency services, and growth on the edge of town. The meeting also left one zoning issue unresolved, as officials sent proposed rules for convenience stores with gas pumps back to Planning and Zoning for more work.
Gas Pump Ordinance Gets Sent Back
Council continued and then closed a public hearing on a zoning text amendment for convenience stores with gas pumps, but did not approve the ordinance. Members said some details were still missing, including where the rules would apply and how specific limits would be set. Council voted to remand the item back to Planning and Zoning for revisions.
35-Acre Tract Added To City ETJ
Council unanimously approved an ordinance expanding Farmersville’s extraterritorial jurisdiction to include the remaining portion of an approximately 35.23-acre tract, after the property owner requested the change. Officials said part of the land was already in the city’s ETJ and part was still in the county.
City Approves 2026-27 Budget
After a brief public hearing with no speakers, council approved the city budget for fiscal year 2026-27. Staff described it as a conservative plan that keeps the same tax rate as last year at $0.725 and includes a 3% raise for city employees. Staff also said the budget leaves revenue uncommitted while finance staff continue sorting out prior-year numbers. |
