Farmersville Delays Gas Station Rule As Budget Pressure Mounts

Farmersville City Council spent its August 3 meeting weighing a new zoning rule for convenience stores with gas pumps, getting a blunt look at budget strain, and hearing resident complaints about trees, potholes, and surveillance cameras. The biggest action came when council tabled the gas station ordinance until September, while finances and the unfinished Farmersville Parkway project remained major concerns that could affect drivers, taxpayers, and utility customers.

Gas Station Permit Rule Put On Hold

Council opened a public hearing on a zoning amendment that would require a specific use permit for convenience stores with gas pumps in mixed-use and nonresidential districts. Staff said Planning and Zoning discussed traffic, congestion, and public safety, but council members raised questions about the ordinance language and said they wanted more context from P&Z. A motion to table passed 4-0, and the public hearing was reopened to stay open until the first council meeting in September.
