Celina Road Funding Fight Heats Up As County Flags State Squeeze

Collin County’s Aug. 17 Commissioners Court meeting did not include many Celina-specific agenda items, but it did spotlight one issue that matters directly to Celina drivers and taxpayers: road funding. County leaders also approved a subdivision replat, though the meeting record did not clearly tie that property to Celina. For residents here, the clearest takeaway was the county’s warning that state transportation dollars remain tight even as fast-growing areas like Celina keep adding traffic.

County Presses For More Road Money

During a transportation update, Commissioner Darrell Hale said the region has about $1.2 billion in planned projects in Collin County without funding currently assigned to them. He said state transportation funding looks flat, even as more roads are added and maintenance costs rise. That matters in Celina, where continued growth is putting more pressure on farm-to-market roads and other routes residents use every day.
