Standards
Editorial standards
How we report, correct mistakes, handle sources, and keep news separate from sponsors.
Accuracy
Texas Local Weekly aims to accurately report information from public records, government meetings, official documents, interviews, and other reliable sources. Public records can be incomplete or change later, and stories can develop after we publish.
Corrections
If we publish a significant factual error, we will correct it as soon as reasonably possible. Corrections to significant errors are generally noted on the original story so readers can see what changed.
To report an error, email contact@txlocalweekly.com. It helps to include:
- The story’s link or title
- The statement you believe is wrong
- What you believe is correct, with any records or links that support it
- Your name and how to reach you
We review each request against the available evidence. Sending one does not guarantee a change. Minor typos and formatting fixes may be made without a notice, and disagreements over wording or interpretation may not lead to a formal correction.
News and commentary
Our goal is to distinguish factual reporting from commentary or opinion. In our reporting, we try to avoid assuming whether a development, ordinance, budget decision, or other government action is good, bad, or a positive sign.
When we explain what a decision could mean, we separate those possibilities from established facts. We also try to be clear about where a matter stands, including whether it is proposed, recommended, approved, under construction, or complete.
Sources and public records
Whenever practical, our reporting relies on original public records, meeting materials, government documents, or direct sources. When a statement or estimate comes from someone else, we aim to attribute it to that source, and we link to the original document when it is available online.
Confidential sources
We do not publish the identity of a confidential source without permission, except when disclosure is required by law.
Email is not a secure channel. If you need to stay confidential, say so before sharing details that could identify you.
AI-assisted production
Texas Local Weekly uses AI tools to assist with parts of the publishing process, including research organization, drafting, editing, and image creation. AI output does not replace verification against original sources.
Sponsored content
Sponsored material should be clearly distinguishable from our ordinary editorial reporting.
