City Council Approves Downtown Revitalization Plan
The Farmersville City Council voted 5-2 to approve a comprehensive downtown revitalization plan that includes new streetscaping, parking improvements, and facade grants for local businesses.
At Monday's city council meeting, members approved a $2.3 million downtown revitalization plan after months of community input and planning sessions.
The plan includes new sidewalks and pedestrian lighting along Main Street, the addition of 45 angled parking spaces, and a matching grant program that will provide up to $25,000 per business for facade improvements.
Construction is expected to begin in April 2026, with Phase 1 focusing on the two-block area between Commerce Street and McKinney Street. The project is funded through a combination of general fund reserves and a state Main Street grant.
Two council members voted against the plan, citing concerns about the timeline and potential disruption to existing businesses during construction.
Why It Matters
This represents the largest investment in downtown infrastructure in over 20 years and could significantly impact foot traffic and business viability in the historic district.
What Happens Next
The city will hold a pre-construction meeting in February and begin accepting facade grant applications. Construction is scheduled to start in April with completion expected by November 2026.
